Does VR Make You Sick? An Honest Guide

Most people feel fine in free-roam VR. Some do not. Why motion sickness happens at Seaside VR, who feels it, and what staff do.

It is one of the first questions people ask, and some VR shops answer it with “never.” We will not. Most guests feel fine. A few feel motion sick. Here is why it happens, and what we do when it does.

Why it happens

Your eyes and your inner ear usually agree about how you are moving. In VR they sometimes do not. If the game slides you forward while your body is standing still, the brain gets two reports. Some people feel queasy or dizzy. That mismatch is the whole problem. It is not a flaw in you, and it is not rare enough to pretend away.

Why this setup is easier on most people

At Seaside VR you walk, turn, and duck. Your body is doing the moving the game is showing, so eyes and inner ear agree more often. That is why some players who feel sick on a home headset, thumbstick and all, feel fine here. It is a real difference. It is not a guarantee.

Who is more likely to feel it

People who get carsick or seasick easily tend to be more sensitive. Fast games, and the first few minutes, are when it shows up. Being tired, hungry, or already unwell that day makes it more likely. A heavy meal right before is a common mistake.

What to do

–  If you are unsure, start with a 20-minute Quick Play rather than an hour.

–  Tell staff the moment you feel off. Do not try to push through it.

–  Pause, take the headset off, and sit. It usually passes.

–  Skip the session if you already feel unwell. The game will still be there.

Who should check before they play

Ask a doctor first or skip play if you have seizure history, pregnancy, heart or balance conditions. This article is general information, not medical advice. If you are unsure whether you should play, call 503-717-5230 before you book.
